I have finally figured out the secret to running negative splits.
- Plan an easy run with a friend. Be sure to carry cell phone
- At halfway point have a family member call you to tell you that your dying mother has taken a sudden turn for the worse and that an ambulance has been summoned.
- Turn around and run as fast as you can to your car, paying no heed to the ability of your running partner.
Mother is okay, well.. as okay as you can be when you are dying. She is not tolerating morphine very well and apparently was high, but not a good high. We are hoping to sort it all out tomorrow.
I sent an apology to my running partner. When I uploaded the run to Strava I noticed that on our return trip we ran at least 45 seconds /km faster than we normally run when we are together. She did great and kept up with me though.
